During an inspection in response to concerns

We spoke with people that use the services and with relatives. One person stated that "They have a lot to thank the home for and staff are friendly". Another person commented that "They look after us very well and staff are thoughtful". A visitor we spoke with said that they were happy with the care provided and staff appeared to have a good understanding of people's needs. However, some evidence gained during and after the inspection did not fully support the comments made by some of the people using the services.

During an inspection in response to concerns

During the visit we spoke to the relatives of two people living in the home. One person's relative told us they were worried about the staffing levels in the home. They said the staff were lovely but were busy doing tasks such as cleaning, laundry, washing up and preparing meals (in the evening) all the time. They said staff had no time to spend with people living in the home and there was nothing for people to do other than sit in front of the television all day.

The other person's relatives told us when the manager was there they were very happy with the service but since she had not been at the home the service had deteriorated. They said they never saw more than two or three care staff on duty and were concerned that important information about their relatives care needs was not being communicated properly to staff working in the home and external professionals. They said a review of their relatives care had been delayed for several weeks because there was no continuity in the home.

During an inspection in response to concerns

People told us that they enjoyed living at the home and staff were generally good at explaining any changes to their care. One person said that they had been physically unwell when admitted to the home but not now felt significantly better due to the care and support they had received.

People told us that they were well cared for and that there was always sufficient staff on duty to meet their needs. We observed that staff generally interacted well with people and throughout the day of the visit there was a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
