Date of Assessment: 5 June to 14 July 2025 with site visits on 5 June and 9 June 2025.

The service is a care home providing support for up to 30, including those living with acquired brain injury, mental health support needs and older people living with dementia. At the time of the inspection 30 people were living at Edgewater. This is the first inspection for this newly registered service. This was a responsive assessment due to concerns we received about the administration of medicines and people’s safety. We found one breach of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 in relation to medicines. Governance systems were not always effective enough to monitor and improve the quality of the service regarding medicines. The service had been rated good following this assessment. People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. They treated them as individuals and supported their preferences. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. Staff responded to people in a timely way. The provider supported staff wellbeing. Leaders and staff had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. There was a culture of continuous improvement with staff given time and resources to try new ideas.

People and their loved ones were positive about the quality of their care. They felt safe and were fully involved in planning their care and understood their rights. People said they received high quality care from knowledgeable staff who treated them as individuals. One person’s loved one said, “They are very responsive and let me know everything that is happening.” People and their loved ones felt able to complain and where confident action would be taken, and improvements would be made. One persons loved one told us, “I have had to share one or two concerns, but they have always been dealt with, and I couldn’t be happier.” People were referred to other health professionals and support was given to people when required. All people’s loved ones that we spoke with told us staff were considerate, protected people’s privacy and sought consent to make sure people felt involved in their care decisions. People were treated as individuals, and with kindness, compassion and dignity.
