During a routine inspection

During our visit we spoke with eight people who lived at the home and with three people visiting their relatives. These are some of the things they told us:

'They (the staff) are marvellous'.

'I like the food; I can choose what I want'.

'We are very satisfied with the care here'.

'People who live here are put at the heart of everything. Just like at home they get a cup of tea when they want, get food when they want and go to the toilet when they need to. They are brilliant'.

We saw that care planning and delivery was of a high standard. People received nutritious meals, snacks and drinks when they wanted them and they enjoyed the food provided.

We saw that safe staff recruitment procedures were in place and staff told us they enjoyed their jobs very much.

Systems for managing medication were safe and any complaints or concerns were dealt with quickly and appropriately.

During an inspection looking at part of the service

We used a number of different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service because they had complex needs which meant they were not able to tell us of their experiences.

We saw staff interacting with the people who live there in a considerate way. They also gave clear instruction to people they were supporting.

We observed people being moved during our visit and saw people were moved appropriately.

We saw there was enough staff on duty on the day of our visit and we did not see anyone having to wait for assistance.

The staff we spoke with felt there was enough staff on duty to fulfil their roles.
