During a routine inspection

People who use the service told us that they had been involved in the assessment of their needs and their opinions and wishes had been taken into account. One person told us that “the staff are always asking if I am happy with my care”. People told us that “staff explain things if I don’t understand”, “for important topics, the manager asks my family to be involved” and “I know who to speak to if I’m not happy with anything. The staff always listen to me and do their best to help. I can change my mind about anything at any time”. Care plan reviews included a review of the person’s understanding and ability to give consent.

We saw evidence of care plan reviews (including risk assessment and consent) were taking place on a monthly basis. One relative told us that they were included in all reviews of care and said that the communication from staff was excellent. They told us that the staff were “fantastic with my mother. She has so much more energy and I can recognise her again. She’s more like herself again now that she is somewhere that she feels safe”.

We looked at the medication policy and procedures and found them to be comprehensive. We observed staff administering medication in a respectful and unhurried manner. The home had a complaints policy in place to manage comments and complaints about the service.

During an inspection in response to concerns

During our inspection we spoke with one person who was using the service. We also spoke with two relatives of people who were using the service and a general practitioner (GP) who was visiting at the time of the inspection.

The person who was using the service told us they were happy living at the home and that they felt well looked after. They told us they liked the food.

The two relatives we spoke with both told us they were very happy with the service and that they felt confident their relatives were being well cared for. They said they felt their relatives were very involved in their care and treatment and that they were always given choices.

The GP we spoke with told us they were happy with the home’s level of communication and that they felt people were well looked after. They told us they thought the home’s management was very good and that they had no concerns about people.
