During a check to make sure that the improvements required had been made

People who used the service are now cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard.

The registered manager had supplied us with relevent documentation and evidence to indicate that a full programme of supervision and appraisals had been established at the service. The registered manger had stated that all the staff had received appropriate supervision and that they have all completed their annual appraisals.

During a routine inspection

We were told by one visitor that their relative was well supported by the staff at Dormers and that they felt the people who used the service were safe and secure. The people who use the service are encouraged and supported to maintain as many connections with the local community as they can. We saw in one care plan the details of one person who maintains strong links with friends in the local community and who they make regular visit to them.

We saw evidence that the people who used the service were given appropriate information and support regarding their care or treatment.

The care plans we looked at demonstrated the involvement of the person who used the service they were person centred and written from their perspective.

The staff told us that they understood their responsibility for reporting abuse and whistle blowing to protect the people who used the service.

The registered manger actively seeks the feedback from the people who use the service and their families. The manager had introduced family meetings where all family members and representatives of the people who used the service were invited to come to Dormers and join an open floor meeting and to provide feedback to the service.

During a routine inspection

The majority of people who lived at Dormers had Alzheimer's or high levels of dementia and were therefore unable to communicate there thoughts about the service.

We were able to speak with two people living in the home. We also spoke with some peoples carers.

People who used the service said that they were very happy with the quality of care provided at the home with comments such as, ' lovely staff', 'good home' ,' The staff are always happy' and they are very caring ', excellent care' and ' I am very happy with the care that I receive'.

One person stated that their care plan had been discussed with them and that they had been involved in the subsequent reviews, and that their needs were being met by the staffing arrangements in the home.

We were able to make appropriate observations during this visit.

During the visit we were able to observe staff talking to people with respect. We saw that staff were attentive to people, and responded to people with a good understanding of their communication styles or body language.

We observed some good interactions between staff and people who use the service. Staff were seen to offer support and guidance in a sensitive, knowledgeable and caring manner.
