Our current view of the service

Requires improvement

Updated 26 May 2026

Date of assessment: 16 June to 24 June 2026. The service is a residential care home providing support to adults, some of whom live with dementia, sensory impairments and/or a physical disability. The service is registered to support up to 45 people. At the time of our inspection, 32 people were living at the service.

During this assessment, we found the provider was in breach of the legal regulations relating to safe care and treatment, and good governance.

The provider did not always ensure people consistently received safe, effective and person-centered care. We identified concerns relating to safeguarding, medicines management, risk management, staffing, infection prevention and control, and governance. Risks to people's health, safety and wellbeing were not always appropriately assessed, monitored or mitigated.

Significant concerns were identified in relation to medicines management, where unsafe practices and poor oversight placed people at increased risk of harm. In addition, governance and quality assurance systems had failed to identify and address several of the issues found during the inspection, limiting the provider's ability to drive improvement and ensure consistent compliance with regulatory requirements.

Despite these concerns, there were positive aspects of the service. People benefited from continuity of care. We observed caring and respectful interactions between staff and people throughout the inspection, and staff worked effectively with external healthcare professionals to help meet people's healthcare needs. The provider promoted equality, diversity and inclusion, provided accessible information, supported people to plan for their future care wishes, and maintained positive links with community partners.

The service was led by an experienced registered manager who was passionate about the people living at the service. However, further improvements were required to ensure the provider's vision for high-quality dementia care is consistently translated into practice and that people receive safe, effective and personalised care at all times.

In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

People's experience of the service

Updated 26 May 2026

Feedback from people and their relatives was mixed. Some people and relatives raised concerns about aspects of care delivery. These included delays in responding to requests for support, particularly with continence care and personal care. Other concerns included oral hygiene, mobility support and skin integrity, and occasions where care was not always delivered in a person-centred manner. People were often unaware of their care plans and did not routinely describe being involved in planning or reviewing their care.

However, most people told us they felt safe living at the service and spoke warmly about staff, describing them as kind, caring and supportive. We observed positive interactions throughout the inspection, and many people and relatives told us staff knew people well and provided continuity of care. Relatives also spoke positively about communication from the staff, the management team's approachability, and the range of activities available to support people's wellbeing.

Whilst most people and relatives felt comfortable raising concerns and believed they would be addressed, a small number told us they were reluctant to speak up due to concerns about potential repercussions for their family member.

Overall, people's experiences reflected a service with caring staff and positive relationships. However, inconsistencies in care delivery, involvement in care planning and responsiveness to people's needs meant improvements were required to ensure all people consistently received safe, personalised and high-quality care.
