Avida Supported Living provides personal care for people with a learning disability and autistic people living in their own homes, or who may be older or younger people. Not everyone who used the service received personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks relating to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided.

We inspected both the provider’s homecare services and supported living services. A separate report has been published about the provider’s supported living services.

This report is about the provider’s homecare service. We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities most people take for granted.

Staff had a good understanding of the people they supported and respected their individual choices and wishes. Staff knew people’s communication preferences and were supported to provide good care to people. Systems were in place to manage people’s medicines safety and to monitor key aspects of people’s health. Staff understood how to care for people and how to promote their safety. Processes were in place to check people received their care calls as assessed and planned. Staff were confident to raise any concerns, and senior staff checked on the quality and safety of care provided to people.

Systems were in place to promote people’s rights, including their right to independence. The management team were open and honest and acted where improvements were needed. Audits and checks were carried out to monitor the care being provided, so senior staff could be assured people received good care.
