During a routine inspection

People's needs were assessed and their care and treatment was planned and delivered in accordance with their individual care plan. The service worked collaboratively with other statutory health care agencies.

The provider, Sunderland Community Support Service, employed a range of healthcare staff that provided the assessment and treatment of people who used the service. Staff were well trained and supported and therefore knew how to care for people in the right way.

We saw that the provider had a system in place for the quality checking of systems, to manage risks and assure the health, welfare and safety needs of people who receive care were being met.

The provider responded to any complaints they received. There was a complaints system available and people were given information about how to make a complaint or raise concerns.

During a routine inspection

We visited two people in their own home. One person was not able to tell us directly what they thought about the service. However, her husband told us 'My wife has been well supported by the carers who have visited her. 'She is better off here at home than in hospital'. During our visit we spent time observing how staff supported people. We saw how the staff members understood the needs of each person and we observed that

people in their care interacted positively when prompted. Staff were seen to take their lead from the people, and seen to offer them the opportunity to make decisions for themselves.
