All Inspections

During a routine inspection

Dorin Court had been extended and refurbished since the last inspection. Although there had been an increase of two beds, additional day space and accessible outdoor space had been provided and the home was much roomier. It was well maintained, nicely decorated and well furnished.

There were three people using the service when we visited and all said they liked staying in Dorin Court. One person said "I love it here, I can relax" and another said "I love the staff". We observed people laughing and joking with the staff, which showed us that staff knew them well and that they were comfortable with the staff.

Support plans were discussed and agreed with people who used the service and/or their relatives and staff always asked people's consent before providing support.

People we spoke with said they enjoyed their meals in Dorin Court. One said "The food's very nice". People were able to choose what they ate and drank and any special diets were catered for.

People we spoke with had a copy of the complaints procedure and knew how to make a complaint. However, there hadn't been any complaints since the last inspection, only compliments.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with two people who were staying at the service and one relative. They told us that the registered manager discussed with them and the family what their needs were and the person also visited the service before admission. They said that any changes in their needs were discussed with them and any changes to the care plan were agreed before being implemented.

We talked with the staff and watched the staff providing care. We saw that staff were aware of the needs of the people who used the service and provided care as set out in the agreed support programmes. The relative we spoke with said they were always made to feel welcome and also felt supported by the staff.

At the time of the visit there were two people staying at Dorin Court, only one of whom required personal care. They said that their needs were met by the number of staff provided. At the time of the visit in the evening a support worker and a service supervisor were present. Both had worked for the service for many years and one person using the service told us how well the support worker had looked after him when he was ill.

We saw that the records of the people who use the service were, on the whole, well maintained and stored securely.

The people who lived in the service were unable to communicate verbally but looked well cared for and content. The relatives we spoke with were full of praise for the care their relatives received at Dorin Court and were completely confident that the service was meeting their needs.
