During a routine inspection

Oakley House was a small home and the majority of care was provided by the owner. When the owner was not available people were supported by a member of staff who also worked at another home owned by the same provider.

There was a very relaxed atmosphere and everyone appeared comfortable in their surroundings. One person said 'This is my home, it's where I like being.'

People we spoke with were able to make decisions about their everyday lives. People said that they were able to make choices about what time they got up, when they went to bed and how they spent their free time.

People were happy with the care that they received. One person said 'I'm pretty well looked after and can do the things I like doing.'

Two visitors told us that they had always been very happy with the care their relative received and they felt involved in all aspects of their care.

The member of staff said they had received appropriate training to carry out their role. They said they were comfortable working on their own and that there was always someone on call to support them if they needed it.

Due to the size and nature of the home the owner was able to monitor the quality of care, and people's views, on an ongoing basis. People who lived at the home told us the owner always checked that they were happy with their care and the way the home was run. One person said 'You can talk to her about anything. She always listens and wants us to be happy.'

During a routine inspection

Oakley House can accommodate people with mild to moderate learning disabilities.

People who spoke with us were able to discuss their life at the home and what they enjoyed about living there. Everyone has individual accommodation contracts that they have signed, and people confirmed to us that it was discussed with them and they understood the do's and don'ts about living at Oakley House. People said that they appreciate having their own rooms, and being able to choose how they are decorated and what things they can have in them. People told us that they liked living at the home and that they 'looked out for each other'. They told us that they made decisions about what they did during the day and the evening. One person said that they enjoyed living together and they had done so for many years. Another person told us that they worked at a supermarket and on an allotment which they very much enjoyed. They said that Oakley House was their 'home'

People who use the service told us that they felt safe at the home and that staff are,' lovely'. Another person told us' we don't want her (the manager) to retire'.

People told us that the food was 'excellent' and that there was plenty to eat at times that suited them. There was assistance for them to maintain their personal hygiene if required and that their privacy and dignity was respected. People told us that their rooms were warm and comfortable.

People had positive comments to make about the home and we found that all the essential standards were met.
