6 February 2014

During an inspection looking at part of the service

There were 35 people living in the home on the day of our inspection. We spoke with three people and two relatives. We spoke with six staff. We looked at three care plans and sections from staff files.

When we inspected this service on 5 September 2013 we found that people were not always treated with dignity and respect. We found that areas of the home were not clean. We found people were not supported by adequate numbers of skilled staff. This had affected the delivery of meals.

The manager wrote to us with an action plan which told us how these shortfalls would be addressed. This inspection was carried out to follow up on the progress made by the home in relation to these essential standards.

At this inspection we found that steps had been taken which demonstrated improvement in the four areas we inspected.

We found that people were shown dignity and were respected.

We saw that people were supported to be able to eat and drink sufficient amounts to meet their needs. One person told us, 'The food is very good, always a choice.'

We found the home was clean, tidy and hygienic and staff had undertaken appropriate training in infection control.

There were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff to meet people's needs.

5 September 2013

During a routine inspection

There were 39 people living at the home on the day of our inspection.

We spoke to ten people who lived at the home and with three people visiting family members. We looked at five care plans. We spoke with seven staff.

We found that people were not always given dignity and respect.

We found that four of the five care plans we looked at were up-to-date. People received care that was suitably planned for their needs. However, staffing levels impacted on care delivery.

People did not receive the support they required at meal times.

We found that parts of the home were not clean.

We saw the home had an effective complaints policy and procedure.

5 December 2012

During a routine inspection

We used different methods to help us understand the experiences of people using the service because some people had complex needs that meant they were not able to tell us how they felt. We observed how staff interacted with people and how people spent their day.

We found people were treated with respect at Clyde House, and people's opinions were taken into account. Care plans had been written in a way that ensured people's safety and contained care information.

People at Clyde House were protected from the risk of abuse because the provider had ensured staff were trained in safeguarding. There were procedures in place to help people raise concerns and prevent abuse from happening.

Clyde House had processes in place to find out people's views of the service and to check the quality of the service.

20 March 2012

We made an unannounced visit to the service and spoke to people who use the service and to staff members. Everyone we spoke to said or expressed that that they were happy living at Clyde House.

People told us or expressed that they felt safe and well looked after. Everyone said that the food was 'good' or 'very good'.

People told us that there were enough activities going on and one person said that they enjoyed trips out and that the 'singers were good'.

One person said 'I like it here; they (the staff) are wonderful '

Another person said 'The staff are very kind and they are around when you need them. The laundry is very well done and my room is clean'. People told us that the home and their bedrooms were clean.

Another person said that they had raised a concern to staff that had been listened to and acted on.
