Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 2 June 2025

Date of assessment: 5 February 2026. Woodlands Care Home provides accommodation and care for up to 44 people, some of whom were living with dementia. At the time of our inspection there were 30 people living in the home. We carried out an assessment looking at all the quality statements in all key questions. The last comprehensive assessment was carried out in November 2018 and was rated good. Our decision to inspect the service was due to the age of this rating. The provider maintained the rating of good. The provider also had 10 onsite bungalows and provided care and support to some of the tenants. Whilst this is reported on separately, there is some crossover within this report due to the way the services work together.

We carried out a tour of the home and found it to be clean and well maintained. Risks associated with people’s care were identified and managed to keep people safe. People received their medicines as prescribed, although we identified some minor concerns which were addressed immediately. Leaders were keen to identify lessons learnt following safety concerns and these were shared with the rest of the staff team, so they understood what went wrong and how to improve their practice.

People’s needs were assessed and care delivered in line with them. People were involved in setting up their care plans and in reviewing their care. People had access to healthcare professionals and staff carried out care and support in line with their guidance.

People received a well-balanced diet and had access to hydration stations situated throughout the home. Staff were kind and caring and relatives complimented staff on their approach and welcome when they visited the home. External professionals were extremely pleased with how staff worked with them to improve outcomes for people. Staff and leaders had done some exemplary work around nutrition and hydration and had recently been awarded certification for their efforts. External professionals told us this had improved people's health and well-being.

People received person centred care and support which met their individual needs and considered their preferences. Staff ensured people experienced good outcomes in line with their aspirations.

Staff and leaders worked well together to ensure consistency of care. There was clear leadership and accountability. Staff and leaders worked well together and adopted the providers values.

People's experience of the service

Updated 2 June 2025

As part of the inspection, we spoke with people and visitors and observed care and support being delivered, this helped us understand the experience of people. People and relatives, we spoke with were complimentary about the home. People told us the staff were very caring. One person said, “I can’t fault them on their kindness, the hairdresser comes, the food is alright, it suits me. They [staff] have been very good with me.” One relative said, “I have met a lot of the staff who work here [Woodlands Care Home], and they are all first class. If you had to be looked after by someone, you couldn’t wish for better than here.” People and relatives were happy with the social events and activities that took place. One relative said, “[A charity] came with a sleigh at Christmas and visited all residents with a present. We always have a laugh with staff, at Christmas the girls were great, they were all dressed up and home was decorated. Staff seem to enjoy their roles.” People told us their needs were met and relatives had no concerns about the care and support their loves ones received. One relative said, “[Relative] struggles to hold a knife and a fork so the last couple of weeks when I can come, I come and help [relative]. I stay for an hour after dinner. I can just pop in when I want. I am here most days of the week. I can’t praise staff enough. The quality is still there on the weekend, not just in the week.” People felt involved in their care and support and relatives had confidence in the staff. One relative said, “From the beginning when I visited, I felt very welcomed; it was clean; no smells; they [staff] were very professional; caring and understanding as my [family member] has early onset mixed dementia and I was struggling. I just knew [family member] would be safe living there [Woodlands Care Home] and because they asked such a lot of questions about [family member] I knew they were interested in them as a person.” People were very happy living at the home and relatives were very complimentary. One relative said, “Everyone was friendly, open and caring when we first visited the home, and they invited us to stay for lunch.”
