Date of assessment 16 May 2025 to 5 June 2025.

St Teresa’s Care Home is a care home providing personal care and nursing care for up to 26 older people who may be living with dementia. During our inspection there were 20 people using the service, of which 16 were receiving personal care. The assessment was carried out by 1 assessor. During the assessment we spoke with the registered manager, and management team, 5 people or their relatives, and 10 care staff for their feedback about the service.

We looked at 33 quality statements and found that people were provided with a safe service, by competent, professional, and well-trained staff. Staff were appropriately recruited, and people were supported, and enabled to take acceptable risks in a proactive, encouraging, manner. This meant their quality of life was enhanced, and reduced social isolation. People were supported by staff working well as a team, and providing them with joined up, integrated care. This included involving external healthcare professionals, where appropriate. The provider’s approach to care was person centred, and promoted, maintained, and enhanced people’s independence. This was by giving them choices regarding the service they received. The provider sought people’s consent to treatment, and they were encouraged, and supported to maintain healthy diets. The support provided was monitored to improve outcomes for people. People, and their relatives said the service was well managed, and the staff employed, treated people with kindness, compassion, and as individuals. They also made sure people received equal service experiences. The service was well led, with good governance, and effective monitoring systems. Since the last assessment, the service has a new provider and this is the 1st assessment since registration on 2nd February 2023.

People were enabled to have maximum choice and control of their lives, and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.

People and their relatives told us the care home was well managed with a registered manager and management team, who were positive, responsive, and available. Any concerns or queries they may have, were responded to in a timely way, and acted upon. They felt respected by staff, who were friendly, and provided them with good care, and support. Staff were well-trained, skilled, and provided a safe service, which enabled people to experience positive outcomes regarding the care and support they received. The support provided, enabled people to live safely, and they were protected from risk of abuse or harm. The registered manager, and staff team responded to people’s changing needs, concerns, and provided them and their relatives with support to understand safeguarding. People knew how to raise concerns if they felt unsafe. People said they received support that was prompt, responsive, appropriate, and provided by staff who worked well together as a team. People and their relatives were supported to have choice and control over the way staff provided care, and support. They were also supported to maintain social, and family contacts, and pursue interests, and hobbies to reduce the risk of social isolation. People were encouraged and supported, by staff to do as much as they could for themselves to maintain and improve their independence.
