Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. This is the first assessment for this service. This key question has been rated good.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

People told us they had good relationships with the staff. A person said, “ Since being supported by Go Care I have my life back . I had many different agencies over the years, but Go Care is the best. The carers and the management are kind, caring and I can socialise, go to the cinema and see my friends.” A care worker told us, “I promote choice by asking my client what they want and involving them in decisions about their care and daily routines. I offer options wherever possible, explain things clearly, and respect their preferences. This ensures they feel in control, respected, and supported in a way that suits them.”

Treating people as individuals

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

People told us that staff promoted their individuality. A person said, “They [staff] will ask me before they support me. They clearly understand what is important to me and respect my personal wishes and quirks.” A care worker told us, “I communicate with my client, politely, clearly and respectfully, asking about their preferences and observing how they respond. This helps me understand how they like to be supported and ensures the care is tailored to their needs.” Another care worker said, “I promote choice by always asking the person how they want things done and offer options. I use simple language to communicate and give them time to decide without any pressure. I respect their preferences and support them to make their own decisions, encourage them to choose their routine, meal, activities and how they want to be supported, keeping everything, person centred.”

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and well-being.

The staff supported people to be independent and do things for themselves when they were able to and wanted to. People told us the staff encouraged them to be independent with aspects of their own care and to try new things. A person said, “They [staff] will do what I can’t do but I am able to do all the things I can do on my own.” A care worker said, “I support people to be independent by encouraging them to do as much as they can for themselves and providing assistance only when needed. I offer guidance, adapt tasks to their abilities, and use tools or techniques that help them carry out activities safely. This helps clients maintain skills, confidence, and a sense of control over their daily lives.”

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes.

Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. People told us that staff were attentive and supportive if they were unwell or unhappy about something. A person said, “While I have no concerns or complaints, I know the staff are very flexible and support me with anything, even if this is short notice.”

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the well-being of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centered care.

Staff spoke highly and positively about the care and support they received from the organisation and the registered manager. A care worker said, “I feel very well supported at work. Go Care Ltd provides regular supervision and appraisal every quarter and appraisals once a year, which gives me the chance to discuss my progress and any concerns. We also have monthly Zoom meetings with staff and management, and there is always someone available to contact by message or phone if I need support. These systems help me feel guided and confident in my role.” Another care worker said, “I feel well supported, I have regular supervision and spot checks every quarter, I have appraisal once in a year. Managers are always available to help, Go Care Ltd provide strong support systems, open communication and a positive working relationship and environment.”
