During an inspection in response to concerns

The registered manager was on leave at the time of the inspection and a member of their family, who was not employed by the service, was managing the administration of the home whilst a senior member of staff was responsible for the care, welfare and safety of people who used the service.

We spoke with five people who used this service and a friend who was visiting. People told us they liked living at this service. Comments included "The staff are lovely, they look after me well" "There is nothing to complain about, the girls are very kind". A visitor told us "The staff here understand people; they take time to encourage people".

People we spoke with said they felt safe at this home. We found that although the staff knew how to recognise and respond to abuse the guidance available to them was not accurate.

Our observations confirmed that the staff were caring and they understood people's needs. The staff had been trained to care for people appropriately and they had been recruited safely and supported to carry out their roles.

People told us they would have spoken to the staff if they had needed to make a complaint. We saw that people were able to make complaints and these had been managed appropriately.

During an inspection in response to concerns

In our discussion with people living at Wychwood we were provided with a range of complementary comments about the service and the staff. People felt well cared for and were happy with the level of support and assistance provided by staff.

We were told that the meals were good and that the environment was comfortable. It was said that there was access to gardens and various activities to support the residents living. This made it feel homely and safe.
