During a routine inspection

We spoke to one person who used the service and two relatives of people who received care from the agency.Comments received included:

"The staff are not hurried to do their work and go the extra mile"

"They will stay as long as it takes"

"My needs are met absolutely"

"Without them my relation would not have been able to stay in their own home"

"No one else compares to them"

"I feel totally safe with them-they are like family to me"

"Staff are knowledgeable and well trained"

"They always ask me what I think about the care"

"They are brilliant-better than a five-star service"

"They are professional and my initial assessment was very encouraging"

"They are very kind and know what they are doing"

We spoke to three members of staff. They told us:

"There is so much training, nothing could be better"

"They always listen to us and try to accommodate us"

"My induction prepared me for my role and I did not start work until all my checks came through"

"They are very supportive and nothing could be better"

This visit found that the health and wellbeing of people was promoted through the approach of staff and the maintaining of accurate records relating to care. People were protected from harm through arrangements adopted by the agency. Further protection was given through the robust recruitment of staff. The needs of people were met through the training available to staff. People benefitted from a service that monitored the quality of the support it provided.

During a routine inspection

We found that people's privacy, dignity and independence were respected. People's views and experiences were taken into account in the way the service was provided and delivered in relation to their care. One family member said, "They always involve her in decisions and we are always invited to reviews and kept informed."

People experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights. One person who uses the service said, "There were no problems whatsoever. They were very good." Another said, "This is my first experience of care in the home and I have found my carer to give me excellent care in every way."

We found that people who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

People were cared for by staff who were supported to deliver care and treatment safely and to an appropriate standard. The staff members we spoke with said that they felt supported.

We found that the provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive. The provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who use the service and others. One family member said, "Generally we are very happy. There have been a few minor niggles lately, but they are very obliging and always willing to sort things out."

During a routine inspection

During this review we visited two people at their own home and spoke to the representatives of a further three people by telephone. Overall, feedback received regarding the agency was positive. For example, people told us: they were treated with dignity and respect; their views were taken into consideration; their requirements, expectations and wishes had been discussed with them and that their care needs were being met. Furthermore, people told us that they were supported to maintain their independence and that staff were attentive to their needs. No concerns, complaints or allegations were received from the people using the service, their representatives or other stakeholders and people confirmed their views had been sought by the agency on the service provided.

Comments received included: 'I could not praise them [the staff] highly enough'; 'To date they have been absolutely marvellous' and 'The timekeeping of staff is excellent.'
