Our current view of the service

Good

Updated 22 April 2026

Date of Assessment:13 May to 3 June 2026

This service is a residential care home providing support to older people, some of whom may be living with dementia. The service can support up to 38 people. At the time of the inspection, 37 people were living in the service.

We carried out this inspection due to the age of the rating. This was a comprehensive inspection covering all key questions and quality statements.

At the time of the inspection, the service was providing support to some older autistic people and people with a learning disability. We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed autistic people and people with a learning disability respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We found the provider was delivering care in line with these principles.

At the last inspection, this service was rated good. At this inspection, we have found the service remained good.

There were enough staff available to meet people’s needs. Staff knew people well and understood how they liked to be supported. People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity and responded to people in a timely way. People had enough to eat and drink to stay healthy. Staff monitored people’s health to support healthy living. The provider worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes and smooth transitions when moving between services. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends.

Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive. Staff were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities and felt supported and valued. Staff and leaders demonstrated a positive, shared vision for the service.

However, we identified some concerns with the condition of the fixtures and fittings within the building. This meant infection prevention and control measures were not always effective. We also found environmental safety monitoring and checks on facilities required strengthening. The provider responded promptly to our findings, taking immediate action to make improvements. The management team demonstrated a commitment to making continuous improvements in the service to ensure people received good care.

People's experience of the service

Updated 22 April 2026

People and those important to them spoke positively about the kind and caring attitude of staff and the quality of care provided. People told us they felt safe and relatives did not have any concerns about people’s safety.

Comments included, “It may be a bit old and require updating in certain areas but the care they provide never varies”, “All of the carers are lovely people”, “[Person] is happy, they do everything for them. I would give them over 100%” and, “[Person] is looked after really well; they are so happy.”

Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed us staff were kind and respectful when providing support. People were listened to and staff were prompt to respond to people’s needs to minimise any distress or delay.

People and those important to them told us they knew how to raise concerns and give feedback and were confident action would be taken. They told us they knew staff and leaders well. They told us the management team were friendly and approachable and they praised the homely, welcoming atmosphere of the service.

Comments included, “Everyone knows everyone. It’s like a big caring family”, “They are very lovely and supportive. Whenever you go you are always made welcome anytime day or night. There is always a member of staff to greet you,” and, “They have given me peace of mind and made me happy.”
