During a routine inspection

People who we spoke to told us that they liked to be called residents. They told us that they had received good information about the services being provided at Evergreen Lodge. One person told us, 'Yes I saw the leaflet before I moved in but I thought the visit I made to check it out first was more useful'. We also spoke to commissioners of the service and they said, 'We have the information we need about Evergreen Lodge, we know what they do and we work closely with them in providing care and treatment for residents we have referred to them'.

Residents told us that they felt safe and that they were well supported by staff. Talking about the food they said, 'Yes the foods not bad, it's ok better than in the hospital anyway'; another resident told us, 'I like the food we get here, I don't have any complaints about it'.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with five people who use the service, three members of staff and the manager during this unannounced inspection.

People said they thought there were enough staff and said they saw their key worker regularly. Some people attended the monthly house meetings and the weekly coffee meetings although these were not well attended. People said they kept their room clean and the home was kept in good condition. We received mixed comments about the food with some people saying the food was very good, met their cultural and religious needs and preferences and said they were encouraged to eat foods that helped them maintain a healthy life. Other people said they prefered to do their own cooking. This was useful as part of their preparation for more independent living with staff available to support them with budgeting if required.

One person told us they kept in contact with friends, which was important to them. Some people said that they saw their family.

Staff said they had good access to training and support through the company and the manager that helped them carry out their role. Staff said they worked well with individuals and local health and social care professionals to ensure people got the treatment and support they needed.
