Date of Assessment: 02 April 2025 to 14 April 2025.

Kelstone Court Nursing Home is a care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 28 people. At the time of our inspection, there were 27 older people using the service[RS3][AS4], the majority of whom were living with dementia.

This was the first inspection of the service since it registered under a new provider.

Based on the findings of this assessment the service has been rated Good.

There was a culture of learning from incidents and accidents that took place. Staff recruitment practices were thorough and staff received appropriate induction and training which helped them to support people in a competent way. The provider managed identified risks to people, including those in relation to medicines and infection.

People’s needs were assessed before they began to use the service and the provider supported them with regards to their ongoing health and support needs.

Staff were caring and treated people with dignity and respect. People were supported to take part in a range of activities and were encouraged to maintain family and friends’ relationships.

The management of the service was consistent and stable, feedback from staff indicated that the service was managed well.

During this assessment we received feedback about the care home from 3 people living there, 6 relatives and 3 external health and social care professionals.

People told us they felt safe living at Kelstone Court Nursing Home and staff looked after them well. People were positive about the quality of the care provided. Comments included, “I’m alright. I get everything I need”, “Carers are good, food is OK, no complaints” and “Yes, I feel safe.”

Relatives were equally happy with the care that their family members received and praised both the staff and the registered manager for their attitude. Comments included, “They are open to any suggestions”, “Carers treat them with respect”, “It’s the best place for them”, “Very happy, they have really helped”, “They give great support. They understand how to support [my family member] and “I can ring [the registered manager] at any time and he always makes himself available.”

Some people could not directly tell us about their experience, so we observed how staff engaged with them. This approach showed us staff listened to and interacted positively with people living in the care home.
