People we spoke to said they had recommended the service to their friends because it was easy to use and staff made you welcome. We saw that people's privacy and dignity were respected when registering for treatment. People said "I like that they have the radio on so that other people can't hear what I say to the receptionist, it's good". There were comfortable waiting rooms with plenty of seating. There was a wide range of information leaflets available in the waiting areas and consultation rooms. People said "You can ask questions and have a laugh with the staff; they don't make you feel awkward".

The private consultation rooms were appropriately equipped to examine people and provide treatment where required. Detailed records were maintained of each consultation and these were stored securely. Staff were properly trained supervised and appraised. Staff we spoke with demonstrated a strong awareness of their safeguarding responsibilities and how to respond to concerns. There were arrangements in place to respond to emergencies. We saw that the provider had systems in place to monitor and improve the quality and safety of the service provided.

The centre recognises that this service Brook Brixton is for the under 25s and welcomes the involvement and the views of people that use the centre. Quality assurance systems in place have a strong emphasis on the young people using the service becoming involved, and the service actively promotes feedback. Changes are made to the service as result of young peoples' feedback.

The centre has attained 'You're Welcome' accreditation in recognition for a service that is young people friendly. It is specifically for the young to receive free confidential advice on family planning, and screening for sexually transmitted diseases.

A young person attending the centre told us that this centre was popular with young people from the surrounding community as a family planning advice centre. She said " People appreciate that it is a friendly environment where confidentiality is maintained. It has professional experienced staff present to offer contraceptive advice and family planning without being judgemental". She told us that it also offers additional counselling on relationship development which young people value.
