During a routine inspection

All the people we spoke with in the home confirmed that they felt respected. Each person we spoke to confirmed that staff were polite and kind. We saw that people were supported to maintain their independence as much as possible.

People told us that they were able to make choices about the way they spent their time in the home and the ways in which their care was delivered. For example during the inspection we saw that people made choices about their morning routines. Some people liked to be up early whilst another person who did not wish to get up until nearly lunch time. They told us "I like to take my time. I do not like to be rushed. It takes me a long time and I like to do it my way." Another person liked to go out on a daily basis on their motorised scooter.

There was comprehensive information available about the way the individual's choice and independence had been promoted. Records gave clear guidance to staff on how care and support was to be given. The manager and care workers we spoke with demonstrated detailed knowledge about the people they were caring for.

People were very positive about the staff that cared for them. One person said "They are always very willing, very considerate. They are excellent girls and i have nothing but praise for them."

During a routine inspection

People living at St Georges Residential Home told us they were able to make choices about their day to day lives. People said they were able to choose what time they got up, when they went to bed and how they spent their day.

One person said 'I find it very good here. I am able to organise my day entirely. I have breakfast in my room. I like to be down for lunch time. I do a lot of reading."

People were encouraged and supported to go out if they wished to. One person said ' I could stay in bed if I wanted to or I can plan a day to go out with my family.' At lunch time we were told 'That is the amazing part'.the freedom. I can ring even now and say I won't be going down to lunch and they will bring it to my room.'

People were very positive about the care they had received in the home. 'We are definitely well looked after. ' Another person said 'I have all the care I want in my room. They don't just pop in and out. They stop and make sure you are really alright.'

People living at the home appeared very comfortable and relaxed with the staff who supported them. We observed that staff interacted with people in a polite and friendly manner.

People told us that the home provider and the manager were regularly in the home and they were able to raise any issues with them. We also heard about the residents meetings where 'anything' could be discussed. One person told us 'I am lucky to be here. There is nothing to improve on. I have no worries at all.'
