We carried out this inspection on 8 April 2025. During this inspection we looked at the key questions of Safe, Responsive and Well-led. The inspection was triggered by some concerns we had received around people’s care and treatment. Barty House is a service which provides nursing, personal care and accommodation for up to 59 people. Some people had health conditions that required ongoing care, while others were living with dementia.
The service was clean and had good hygiene standards. However, staff had not taken appropriate action in response to a contagious infection present during our inspection. This issue was addressed and resolved following our visit.
Staff demonstrated an outstanding commitment to ensuring equitable access to care, they supported people to maintain their independence, make informed choices and receive care in line with their individual preferences. People receiving end-of-life care were treated with sensitivity and dignity, with a strong focus on a person-centred approach. Staff enabled people to have meaningful opportunities in the wider community which resulted in people having positive outcomes.
The registered manager and staff learned from accidents and incidents and any safeguarding concerns were reported to the relevant authorities and thoroughly investigated. Risks to people had been identified, with clear guidance in place to mitigate them. As a result, people were kept safe while living at Barty House.
The registered manager ensured sufficient staff were on duty to meet people’s needs and new staff were recruited through a robust and thorough process. People received their medicines as prescribed and the risk of medicine errors was reduced through the use of an electronic medicine administration system. We did find some shortfalls in the processes and systems around checking medicines. The registered manager took action on these immediately following our visit.
Senior staff regularly monitored the quality and safety of the service and staff were routinely encouraged to share their ideas and suggestions to the running of Barty House.
Staff were extremely happy working at the service and told us they felt supported and valued. There was a positive culture across the workforce and a shared commitment to providing good care. Staff had strong links with external healthcare professionals and the local community which helped ensure people could access care and treatment when needed.
