During an inspection looking at part of the service

At our previous inspection on 27 August 2013 we found care planning records were not accurately maintained. We found there was conflicting information recorded about the care and support that people required, which could result in people being provided with inappropriate or unsafe care and support.

At this inspection we found that care records had been regularly audited by the home manager and the regional manager. Care plans had been reviewed and updated so that there was a full and accurate record of the care and support provided to people.

People that we were able to communicate with told us that they were happy living at the home. Their comments included, "It's first class here," "I'm very happy here and have nothing to grumble about" and "Everything is great, the staff, the food and the care."

We found people were protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records were maintained.

27 August 2013

During a routine inspection

During the inspection we found that staff had positive interactions with people, they spoke patiently and kindly whilst offering choices and involving people. People also had positive interactions and communication with each other.

We spoke with 13 people who used the service. Overall people told us that they were happy living at the home. Their comments included, "If you need care, then this is a good place to live," "It's a nice place to live and you get all the care you need really" and "I've got a lovely room and I'm looked after well."

We found that people were asked for their consent to care and treatment and the staff acted in accordance with their wishes.

People who used the service and their relatives told us they often had to wait a long time for help if they pressed their buzzer, particularly after lunch. One person said, "It's the one thing that gets me down, this waiting for someone when I want help."

We spoke with five relatives. They told us, "They [staff] work very hard. It's a difficult job and they keep smiling" and "The staff are very caring and patient."

Our observations evidenced that there were enough staff on duty and staff working in the home were appropriately qualified to do their jobs.

The provider had a system in place for gathering and evaluating information about the quality of care the service provided.

We found that records were held securely and retained for an appropriate period of time.

10 April 2012

During a routine inspection

People who we were able to communicate with told us that they were happy living at the home and that they were satisfied with the care they received. People said, "I feel better here than I did at home." "It's a wonderful home." "I am very settled." "It's superb here."

We spoke with one relative. They spoke very highly about the home and the care that was provided. They told us "I have no worries or concerns about the home and think its good in every aspect. We are very pleased that (our relative) is here."

Sheffield Local Authority Contracting and Commissioning had recently carried out a full

monitoring visit. Their report showed that they believed that the service met all aspects

of the Essential Standards of Quality and Safety.
