During an inspection looking at part of the service

In January 2011 the current registered providers went into administration. The administrators have appointed a management company called Health Care Management Solutions (HCMS) to oversee the running of the home.

People were relaxed and happy when we visited. People were in the lounge, dining room and their bedrooms throughout the day. Some people went out to the local shops with support and independently.

During an inspection in response to concerns

These are some of the things people told us during our visit:

People said they liked the food. One person told us that they thought the food was better than before.

One person told us they were moving to another home and that they would be doing their own cooking and cleaning.

Some other people said they wanted to move elsewhere.

During an inspection in response to concerns

There are 10 people who live at St David's Lodge who have a learning disability. The needs of the people are different. The majority of people need support in all aspects of their lifestyle with few able to access the community independently.

We spoke to those people who were able to tell us their views. We asked them what they liked about living at St David's Lodge.

They told us 'Sometimes I like it. I don't always like the staff' and 'I like the staff they help me'. One person said 'I don't get on with all the people sometimes.'

We asked people how they were helped by staff and were told 'Help me with shaving. I may cut myself' and 'Put clothes on for me.'

We asked people about activities they were involved with and were told 'Go to Bingo Fridays. Go in the mini bus.' One person told us 'No Christmas shopping yet.'

For those people who were unable to communicate verbally to tell us their views we spent time in the lounge/dining areas of the home observing their routines, and interaction with staff to help us understand their experiences of living at St David's Lodge.
