Our view of the service
Date of Assessment: 3 to 9 July 2025. The service is a nursing home providing support to adults who have nursing needs and mental health conditions. The home is registered to accommodate 59 people.
The provider promoted a positive learning culture where concerns could be raised and addressed. Incidents were thoroughly investigated, and people were kept safe through effective risk management. Facilities and the equipment were kept clean, well-maintained, and met people’s needs. Staffing levels were appropriate, with staff possessing the necessary skills and qualifications to meet people’s needs. There was ongoing training and appraisals, which supported high-quality care. Medicines were managed safely, with people involved in decisions about their treatment.
People were actively involved in assessing and reviewing their needs, with staff considering communication, personal and health requirements. Care was evidence-based and aligned with best practice. Nutritional needs were met, and staff worked collaboratively with other agencies to ensure continuity of care. Health monitoring supported wellbeing, and people were supported to give informed consent. When people lacked capacity, appropriate assessments were completed and ‘best interests’ decisions were made with involvement from those important to them.
Staff treated people with kindness, respect, and dignity, supporting individual preferences and relationships. Care was responsive and timely. Staff wellbeing was also supported.
People were involved in care decisions. Feedback processes were clear, and the provider acted on concerns. The service was inclusive, accessible, and committed to reducing inequalities. Information was provided in accessible formats. People were informed about their rights to decline or withdraw from care.
Leadership was strong and values-driven, with visible and supportive managers. Staff felt safe to give feedback and were treated fairly. People with protected characteristics felt supported. Staff understood their roles and worked with the community to improve care. Innovation and continuous improvement were encouraged and resourced. Staff described he home as ‘an amazing place’ to work and consistently praised the dedication of the registered manager and provider.
People's experience of this service
People were positive about the quality of their care. People said they received high quality care from knowledgeable staff who treated them as individuals. One person said, “The staff are great.” Another person said, “I like it here; the staff are kind to me.” We observed people being treated with kindness and compassion throughout our inspection. A visiting relative told us “I can’t believe how much better [relative] is in himself since coming here. The care and the staff are marvelous; I just cannot fault them. I visit a few times a week.” Another relative told us “I am happy with Turner. It was recommended as there was another person I knew had been in there. Come highly recommended.” The same person also said, “I can go anytime, can just turn up, no set times, go whenever, I always feel welcome.”
Another relative told us “Staff are very kind, when I was there, I was sat sobbing as I hadn’t been for a while and I noticed deterioration, they came and looked after me, they are very good like that.” Someone also said “Staff are very good with [relative]. They take their time with him and try to understand them. They have a very good relationship with the staff. They treat him very well.”
People felt able to complain and were confident action would be taken, and improvements would be made. People knew staff and leaders well. One person told us, “The owner and the registered manager are great. They are always here.”
