Good

Updated 24 July 2025

Date of assessment: 28 July to 1 August 2025.

Menna House is a residential care home providing support to people with a learning disability and/or autistic people.

People were kept safe; staff understood and managed risk while supporting people to take part in activities in their local community and try new things. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular supervision to maintain high-quality care. Staff managed medicines well and people had regular health checks and medication reviews. Staff were pro-active in supporting people to remain active and occupied.

People’s preferred communication styles were known and respected. Staff used simple signs, pictures and easy read information to help support understanding.

Staff and managers had shared values which were based on supporting people to have a good day. Staff were supported by an internal positive behaviour practitioner who worked with them to understand individual’s specific needs.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

People's experience of the service

Updated 24 July 2025

Not everyone at Menna House was able to give us their view of living at the service. We observed people throughout the day as they often came into the office area and spent short periods of time there. We also met with people in their rooms and shared areas of the premises. We saw people were involved in day-to-day decisions about how they spent their time. We observed people had busy and full days. Relatives were very happy with the support their family members received. Comments included; “[Name] is taken out often I believe and enjoys themselves, the photos I've had sent to me from [Registered manager] shows [pronoun] looking very happy so I haven't got any concerns” and “I’m so pleased to have found Salutem and Menna. [Name’s] getting stimulated and kept motivated and mobile and moving. I can't recommend them enough.”
