Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 17 to 22 July 2026.

Trewithen is a care home providing accommodation and personal care for up to 5 people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people. At the time of the inspection 3 people were living at Trewithen.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

People were safe and comfortable in the service and staff understood their role in ensuring people were protected from discrimination or abuse. Risks to people’s wellbeing had been mitigated and staff understood how to support people to manage their anxiety.

Care plans accurately reflected people’s needs and staff worked collaboratively with health professionals to help ensure those needs were met.

People were supported to be as independent as possible and staff consistently acted in people’s best interests. People lived full and varied lives and were able to access the community when they wished.

The service was well staffed and all necessary pre employment checks had been completed to help ensure staff were suitable for employment in the care sector. Staff training was regularly updated and supervision provided.

The manager led the service well and provided effective support and guidance to the staff team. Quality assurance systems were effective and any incidents that occurred were investigated to identify any areas of learning.
