Martlesham Heath Surgery is a GP practice delivering Primary Medical Services to 5943 people. The National General Practice Profile show 92.7% of people registered are White, 3.3% Asian, 2.3% Mixed, 1% Black and 0.6% Other. The practice has a higher than England average of older people, lower than England average of working age adults, and is in line with the England average for young people registered at the practice. The Office for Health Improvement and Disparities data shows deprivation within the practice population is in the 10 decile (10 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.
We conducted this assessment due to the legal entity change of this provider and to rate this service.
The practice had a culture of learning from safety events and when things went wrong, staff acted to ensure people remained safe. Arrangements were in place to keep people safe, which included appropriate monitoring and review of their prescribed medicines. People were involved in assessments of their needs and received effective care and treatment that met their needs and were treated with kindness and compassion. The service was easy to access. Arrangements were in place to receive and act on people’s feedback.Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supported staff to develop in their roles. Practice leaders supported staff wellbeing. Effective arrangements were in place for partnership working and for improvement and innovation. Most governance processes were effective, however, the system for the oversight of the completion of staff training was not effective and the system for the oversight of professional registration checks needed to be strengthened. The practice had identified these issues and were working to make improvements.
Overall, the practice is rated good and all key questions are rated as good.
The service was in breach of legal regulation in relation good governance. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
