Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 4, 16 and 17 July 2025. The service is a domiciliary care agency providing support to young people in their own homes and in the community. Not everyone who used the service received the regulated activity of personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This relates to help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. There were 4 young people receiving a regulated activity at the time of our inspection.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

The service was exceptional at making sure people were at the centre of their care and support choices. The young people received highly personalised care and support from dedicated, trained and supported staff who knew them very well. Staff genuinely cared for the young people they supported. A staff member told us, “It’s an absolute honour and a privilege to take [young people] out in the community and give them a happy healthy life. Their world is so small and we can open it up for them, just make it a little bit larger. Explain their day to their parents and see their faces light up.”

Young people received high-quality consistent support from staff who knew them well. The service was proud they had never had to cancel a support session; they were wholly focused on ensuring young people got the care they needed. The provider had a holistic approach to providing bespoke support based entirely on young people as individuals.

The provider and staff excelled at keeping young people safe whilst promoting their independence. Young people were always supported to make choices and had the utmost control over their support.

Leadership at the service was inclusive and promoted discussions and open communication. The provider focused on continuous learning and improvement across the whole service.

People's experience of this service

We sought feedback from relatives as we were unable to speak with any of the young people who received support. However, one young person who had recently received support from the service said, “My name is [name] and I go to Stag. It has helped me so much. The staff are so kind and helpful when you’re upset.”

Relatives were entirely positive about the service. They felt their children were safe and well-looked after. Comments included, “I felt safe knowing that no matter the situation, the staff would have the skills to keep [name of person] safe”, “It’s hard to trust in new [staff], especially when your child is vulnerable, but they (the provider) put my mind at ease” and “Fantastic, I can’t say anything negative about them. What they do is amazing.”

Relatives told us they felt staff were well-trained and enjoyed their job. Comments included, “Stag give you the feeling that staff really enjoy their jobs, taken pride in their work and that your child’s wellbeing is always their top priority” and “Every single member of staff is wonderful.”

Relatives told us they felt they could trust the service and the young people received consistent care. Comments included, “They (staff) are always on time and totally reliable, and work in a way that I wish was standard within the care sector. Stag have literally changed our life as a family and given us hope”, “[Name of person] had consistency and had familiar faces (from staff) to build those important relationships” and “[Staff] have spent time to get to know [name of person], build their confidence back up and bring them out of their shell.”
