Updated 19 August 2025
Date of assessment 22 August until 29 August 2025.
This was the first assessment of the service since registering with a new provider.
Britannia Lodge is a nursing home registered to support up to 15 people. This includes older people, younger adults and people with mental health diagnosis. The service is in an adapted building set over 2 floors in the local community.
Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way which was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. There were enough staff to meet people’s needs. People were cared for safely by staff who had been recruited and employed after appropriate checks had been completed. Staff received the correct training and supervision to support people safely. People were supported to take their medicines safely by staff who had the correct skills to support them.
Care was person-centred and promoted people’s well-being, communication needs, dignity, privacy and human rights. People were supported to have fluid and nutrition that met their needs and preferences. Health was monitored through regular checks and the involvement of the appropriate healthcare professionals. Referrals to appropriate health services were made promptly.
People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.
People were supported to take part in activities they enjoyed and to access the community to build on wider social engagement. People were supported by staff who engaged with them in a kind and compassionate way.
The registered manager had good oversight of the service, they had encouraged a culture of learning and development. There were systems in place to monitor and review care and people’s experience at the service.
