Date of Assessment: 11 June to 2 July 2026. Hendon Hall is a residential and nursing care home providing support to older people. There was also a part of the home where older people who had dementia were living. The provider has chosen to change the legal status of this service by adding an additional legal entity, meaning the service has dual registration. This led to a new assessment for this service. There was a positive culture in the staff and leadership team. They were open to our feedback and took actions when we found some shortfalls. There were processes in place to review people’s experiences of the care they received and respond to accidents when these happened. Staff were responsive to people’s needs especially when they were unwell. People received their medicines as prescribed and received effective care and attention to manage their physical health conditions. To the extent some people’s health improved meaning the quality of their day-to-day life also improved. The leadership recognised the importance of people enjoying good food and having fun in their lives. Various events took place daily which included planned outings. This approach included everyone living at the home including people who were living with different types and stages of dementia. Checks were completed to ensure staff were safely recruited and the building was safe to live in. We identified some shortfalls as part of this assessment. In relation to care planning and the management of some individuals needs who were at risk of choking, pressure damage to their skin, and who were prescribed oxygen. None of these people came to harm as a result of these shortfalls. The leadership team took action to resolve these issues quickly sharing with us what they had done to make the necessary improvements.
