During an inspection looking at part of the service

We carried out this review to follow up on compliance action served following our review in September 2011.

We spoke with two people who use the service. They told us they enjoyed living in the home and that they felt that they got the care they need. They also said that staff come as quickly as they can when the call bell is rung. Both people we spoke with said the staff were very good. One person said "I don't think they could do more for me."

One person told us they were not aware they had a care plan but said staff "may have told me about it". People living in the home told us the felt safe.

We found that although staff had knowledge of the care and support people needed this was not reflected in the care plans. Care planning and assessment were limited and risks associated with people's individual care was not documented.

Staff told us they had received the training that they needed to carry out their role and that they had received supervision meetings with their manager.

We saw that there was evidence of assessing and monitoring the service by the manager and the provider.

9 September 2011

During an inspection in response to concerns

We spoke with eight people who use the service and one relative during our visit. They told us that they were satisfied with the care that they received and also with the staff who provide the care.

One person said "staff do everything they can for you". People who used the service raised concerns about the use of agency staff within the home. We were also given variable comments on the food provided which ranged from "very good" to "the portions are too big".

Two of the people that we spoke with who use the service were unaware that they had care plans and had not been involved in the development of them. The relative of a person who uses the service that we spoke with told us that they felt that they had been involved in their family member's care.

The people that we spoke with who use the service told us they felt safe.
