All Inspections

During a routine inspection

People said they were offered a choice of meals: one person told us, 'I think the food is very good, there is always enough.' We noticed one person had left the majority of their meal, we saw a staff member checked to see if they were fine and offered them an alternative meal which they happily accepted. This showed staff engaged with people whilst supporting them to eat.

People we spoke with told us staff had informed them about what abuse is. One member of staff we spoke with demonstrated an understanding of safeguarding and confidently explained the different types of abuse people can experience and what they would do to ensure people were kept safe. This showed people who used the service were supported by staff that had the skills and knowledge to respond to behaviour which presented a risk to themselves or others.

People told us staff members were able to meet their needs. Staff we spoke with told us they felt supported and received regular supervision that enabled them to discuss any concerns or personal development needs. We found staff received appropriate professional development.

We found monthly reviews were undertaken by staff to ensure information that related to people's care, support and treatment were up to date. This showed personalised records and medical records were kept and maintained for people who use the service.

During a routine inspection

People told us that they were treated with respect and staff maintained their dignity when providing care. One person said, 'Staff listen to me'. People were given the choice of want they wanted to do for an activity and all suggestions were listened to before a final decision was made.

Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way that was intended to ensure people's safety and welfare. One relative told us, 'The care of mother is very satisfactory'. We saw that care plans were reviewed on a monthly basis to ensure that care given was relevant to the individual's needs.

Appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work. We saw Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks completed prior to staff starting employment.

One person told us, 'If I have a complaint, I will speak to matron'. We saw the complaints procedure posted on the wall of the home and every new resident was given a copy of it at the time of admission. People experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights.

A relative told us, 'I have the utmost appreciation for all staff they are fine people; I am highly indebted to them'. Staff spoken with confirmed that they had received the training and support needed to undertake their role. However, not all staff was being supported through formalised supervision.
