During a routine inspection

We spoke with the manager and deputy manager, nine of the senior staff, two of the administrative staff and met with six reablement assistants. We found that staff were highly motivated about what they did and felt they made a real difference to people. One staff member told us 'we help people to do what they want to do, when they want to do it.' Another said 'we are a strong team. We have been empowered by our training and have developed as people.'

In addition we went with staff to visit one person who used the service. They were full of praise for the care and support they were receiving. They told us 'They are really lovely ' all the lot of them. They help me with my tablets, come and say hello. They make me feel different.'

We looked at five care files for people with varying support needs. We found that the planning and delivery of care promoted choice, dignity and independence.

People were protected from the risk of unsafe support with their medication because staff were trained and worked within clear policies.

There were effective systems in place to ensure people were safe because staff were subject to rigorous recruitment procedures and a thorough induction.

People benefited from safe care and support because the provider monitored the quality of service that people received.

Bournemouth Reablement and Home Care Services had all the necessary policy and procedures, records, quality assurance and monitoring systems in place for the protection of people who use the service. Where complaints and comments had been made, the provider had dealt with them in an appropriate way and had changed the service as a result. Staff carried out their caring responsibilities well and people and their families were involved in their care arrangements.

One person told us "Being able to rely on someone to arrive on time and at set times has been invaluable"

We saw in the care files that people had been asked for their preferences in terms of the gender, religion and culture of the staff that would be providing their care and their lifestyles were taken into account.

We saw staff had been trained to deliver care to meet the needs of people. Staff had received training to recognise abuse and were aware how to report this.
