Our view of the service
Date of assessment 11 June to 29 June 2026.
Divine Care Centre is a purpose‑built care home registered to provide nursing and personal care for up to 44 people over two floors. At the time of our inspection, 27 people were using the service. The home provides residential and nursing care to adults including those with a sensory impairment and/or physical disability.
People experienced care that was kind, respectful and generally person centred. Staff knew people well and interactions were warm and compassionate. People appeared relaxed and comfortable when chatting or, when being supported by staff. People and relatives spoke positively about staff attitudes and the caring culture. People were supported to maintain choice and independence, including around daily routines, meals and activities.
However, there were significant shortfalls in safety and consistency of practice. The service was in breach of regulations in relation to good governance, particularly around the management of medicines, accurate records and effective auditing. Environmental risks were not always well managed. Governance systems had not reliably identified or addressed these issues, despite audits and monitoring being in place.
The provider had previously identified significant shortfalls in records and governance systems and work had begun to address this but more time was needed to make all of the necessary changes or embed those already made. Whilst some concerns had been identified during recent management audits, there were other issues that had not been picked up until we flagged them as part of our assessment.
Leaders were described as caring and approachable by people, relatives and staff. The provider and registered manager responded to concerns raised during the inspection, with some improvements made promptly. Staff felt supported and able to speak up. Overall, Divine Care Centre had a strong caring ethos and a welcoming homely environment but required improvement to ensure safe and consistent care for everyone.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
People's experience of this service
Overall, feedback from people and their relatives was very positive. People and their relatives spoke highly of the service and consistently described feeling safe, happy, and well supported.
People told us they felt safe and cared for by staff. One person said, “I am definitely safe. I’m happy here...” Another person told us, “I am safe and I don't have to worry about my wife wearing herself out.” This showed people felt their needs were being met whilst also reducing concerns about the impact of caring responsibilities on their loved ones.
Relatives described the reassurance they experienced knowing their family member was receiving appropriate care and support. One relative told us, “I couldn't manage my loved one at home any longer because I was afraid, I couldn't give the help he needs. Now he is here, I still get to do things through choice not necessity. I know he is safe and I don't need to worry about him.” This reflected the positive difference the service had made to both the person and their family.
Relatives also reported noticeable improvements in people's health and wellbeing since moving into the service. One relative said, “I can hardly believe how much he has improved since coming here. He has regained weight and always seems happy. I spend a lot of time here because it feels like a good place.” This demonstrated the positive outcomes people experienced and the confidence relatives had in the quality of care being provided.
People spoke warmly about the staff and the positive atmosphere within the service. One person told us, “[The staff] always seem to be smiling, and this makes me feel happy.” Another person said, "The staff are wonderful. I love them.” This indicated staff were kind and approachable, helping to create an environment where people felt comfortable, valued, and emotionally supported.
