All Inspections

1 February 2011

During a routine inspection

The five people we met during our visit to the service have been living there for many years. One person has been living there for fifteen years. Others have been there for seven years. Not all people were able to tell us of their opinions or thoughts about where they lived however we observed that it was clearly 'home' and they felt comfortable with the staff. People communicated freely with each other and the staff but found it hard to give their views to us as we were strangers in their home.

One person was able to talk freely and spoke positively about the support and kindness received from staff. We were told that the manager would always sort out problems and would always 'know what to do.'

During the visit we could see that people had their own daily programmes that were individual to them and appropriate to their needs and preferences. We met them as they arrived home and could see this was a service that promoted a family ethos. On arrival people were welcomed, had a cup of tea and then did different things according to their interests and needs. One person loves to do jigsaw puzzles; another wanted to spend some time alone after a day out with people.

We saw that each person had their own bedroom and could spend as much or as little time there as they wished. Each room was personal and comfortable.

People choose their own meals with support from the staff. They are encouraged to be involved in the daily activities in the home whenever possible. We saw that one person made the tea, another washed up the cups.
