White Gables Care Home is a care home with nursing, providing accommodation and nursing care to up to 55 people. When we visited there were 49 people in receipt of care.
We undertook this inspection to follow up on some notifications and concerns related to the environment, including fire safety and infection control, staffing levels and staff training. However, throughout the inspection we did not find any evidence to support the concerns raised. There was a new registered manager at the service who had made significant improvements since being in post.
This was a comprehensive assessment of this service due to a change in provider, a comprehensive assessment was undertaken to provide an accurate rating for this service.
There had been some fire safety concerns raised by the Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue service prior to our visit, due to non- compliance related to articles from the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. During our visit we saw the provider had worked to address these areas of non-compliance and following our visit a further inspection by the Fire and Rescue service resulted in them finding the provider compliant with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) order 2005.
People were safe living at the service and risks to their safety were well managed by a group of staff who had sufficient training for their role. There was enough staff to support people’s needs and there were safe recruitment processes in place.
People’s needs were properly assessed and medicines were administered safely. Staff showed a good knowledge of how to support people in line with the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Where people’s liberty was restricted this was undertaken lawfully using the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) assessments.
People were supported by a staff group who knew them well and knew how to provide effective support. Their health needs were well managed. Staff were caring and respectful and worked in a person-centred way when providing support.
There was effective leadership at the service and staff felt well supported.
