During a routine inspection

During the inspection we spoke with seven people living at The Manor House and one visitor. They were mostly satisfied with the care and support provided at The Manor House. They told us: 'I think it's a nice place' and 'It's very hospitable and friendly'.

People were being involved in planning and consenting to their support and were enabled to make decisions about matters which affected them.

Overall we found people experienced good care and support. Most people told us they were looked after very well. People were encouraged to maintain and develop their independence skills. However, we found progress was needed in ensuring care plans include details of people's individual needs and choices, so that staff have clear instructions on providing care and support.

People were getting support with their healthcare needs and they had on-going support from health care professionals.

People said they were satisfied with the accommodation at The Manor House. They were provided with comfortable and safe surroundings.

We found good arrangements were in place to train, develop and support the staff in providing an effective service.

Most people had no complaints about the services being provided. There was a satisfactory complaints process, however we found this could be developed to ensure complaints are managed more effectively.

During a themed inspection looking at Dignity and Nutrition

People told us what it was like to live at this home and described how they were treated by staff and their involvement in making choices about their care. They also told us about the quality and choice of food and drink available. This was because this inspection was part of a themed inspection programme to assess whether older people living in care homes are treated with dignity and respect and whether their nutritional needs are met.

The inspection team was led by a CQC inspector joined by a practising professional and an Expert by Experience who has personal experience of using, or caring for someone who uses this type of service.

We also used the Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a specific way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us.

People spoken with during the inspection made some positive comments about their experiences at The Manor House. They indicated they were satisfied with the services provided. People said they were happy with their care and told us they were always consulted about what they wanted. They said, 'Yes, everything is lovely' and 'Visitors are welcome at anytime during the day and we can go to my room for privacy'. We found they were treated with dignity, their independence was promoted and privacy respected.

People told us they liked the meals provided at the home, one person said 'There's always plenty to eat and drink and I can have seconds if I want'.

We found choices were provided and healthy eating encouraged. Peoples' food preferences were known and catered for. Consideration was being given to peoples' individual nutritional needs.

We found there were enough staff to provide care and support. People were content living at The Manor House; they knew what do if they had any concerns and were confident any issues would be dealt with.
