During a routine inspection

We were only able to speak with one of the residents and the relative of another, who in general, provided us with positive feedback about The Grove. They told us privacy; dignity and independence were important aspects of the support provided. They felt their assessed needs were being met by staff who were competent to do their jobs and who ensured they were protected from harm.

Their comments included:

'I'm really pleased with The Grove, they have a good crew there'.

'The manager always tries to please everyone'.

'Sometimes the younger staff don't give me the respect I deserve' adding 'they need training on how to interact'.

During a routine inspection

Due to the fact that none of the service users were available to speak to us on the day of the inspection we have limited service user comments within this report. We were able to speak with one service user on the telephone after the inspection and he was able to tell us that he was very happy in the home and liked the staff and the other clients.

On the day of the inspection it was good however to see that of the four service users living in the home one was at work, one was out at a relatives, one through her own choice was on her own in her room and did not want to talk to the inspectors, and the fourth service user who had no verbal communication skills went out with a carer for a drive in the car.

The home itself is managed by the deputy manager, the registered manager is overall responsible for both The Grove and The Orchards which are only a few hundred metres apart.
