All Inspections

During a routine inspection

People's privacy and dignity was respected and they were provided with sufficient information about their treatment to enable them to make an informed decision. One person who used the service told us, 'Nothing is hidden away, they are up front with what I can expect and what it will cost me. I was provided with all the information I needed to make a decision.'

People's needs were assessed and care and treatment was planned and delivered in line with their individual treatment plan. One person we spoke with told us, 'They checked my health, any reactions I may have had to the patch test, and whether I was still happy to proceed, I am very happy.'

We found that appropriate checks were undertaken before staff began work and the provider ensured new staff attended an induction relevant to their role. One staff member told us, 'Induction was intensive, and I wasn't allowed to treat patients until I had been assessed by [the doctor].'

We found that equipment was appropriately serviced and maintained to ensure people received their treatment in a safe manner. Staff who used the equipment had received training specific to each piece of equipment.

People's confidential records were stored securely both in paper and electronic format. We looked at four people's treatment records and found they were accurate and fit for purpose.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people who used the service. They told us that they had all received a full consultation prior to any treatment being started. One person said, 'They always give me a full consultation every time I come. They discuss what I want and advise what's best for me.'

They all told us that they were very happy with the service that they received. One person said, 'I feel really comfortable with them. They look after their clients really well.' They said that the manager had spent a lot of time with them discussing the outcomes that they wanted from their treatment.

We looked at the treatment plans of seven people who used the service. These were both individual and detailed.

During our inspection we noted that the reception and treatment areas looked spotlessly clean. All of the glass shelving and items on display were dust free. We saw the report of an infection control audit completed by an independent external health care company in September 2012. The report showed that the service was compliant with infection control requirements.

We saw that in the one year period ending on 31 October 2012 there had been only two minor adverse incidents recorded for the regulated activities provided by the service. We saw that the cause of these incidents had been investigated and had been identified.
