During a routine inspection

People we spoke with were aware of safeguarding procedures and systems on how to raise a concern were in place. People were satisfied that staff or the manager would take action to solve their problems.

There were systems and processes, policies and procedures in place. Report writing in the care records was neat, up to date and reflected the changes in care and treatment that people received. We also found that staff were supported and monitored in their working practice. Training and appraisal programmes were in place.

People we spoke with during our visit were very satisfied with the care and activities within the service. They told us the care was very good and the place was clean. Relatives of people who used the service told us that they were satisfied with the care their relative received. They said my relative 'Gets lots of time' and 'They read, knit, sew and they both like silly poems.' and 'They laugh with her.'

Our observations of the service showed that staff spoke with and interacted on the telephone with people who used the service in a patient and pleasant manner.

During a routine inspection

People said 'The person that visits me is lovely and I get on well with them'. 'They listen and support me and have brilliant sense of humour. I really enjoy the activities we do together.'

Another says 'This service gives me social interaction with my worker and gives me something to look forward to, when we go out in the car, and the company'.

Another says 'They offer me friendship, understanding and support with my illness'.

One person says 'They give me a sense of connection'. Another that 'They have someone to talk to and laugh with'.

One person says they 'Like to get out and about as much as possible and your visitors make this possible'.

One person says they 'Completely trust the carer and know that they are well able to cope with any situation in an appropriate way'. 'They have brought a new dimension to our family situation'.

Another says they 'Help them to do things that they need to do, knowing that their wife is well cared for'. Another says 'It's a great help to know that Mum and Dad are being cared for and taken out, It takes the burden off me for that day. They are also mentally stimulated'. Another says 'My relatives' security is ensured and my freedom has started'. One person says the services 'Gives me support to enable me to keep my husband at home'.

One relative says the service 'Enables my husband to maintain his independence, health and well being as well as giving me a much valued break'. Another says ' Mum is very happy with the lady that comes to visit and looks forward to her sessions'. Another relative says 'The Alzheimer's sitters that are visiting my aunt are warm and very kind people whom they are very grateful for. My aunt enjoys their company and patience'. Another says the 'Support workers are very professional and caring, Mums support worker is wonderful and provides support for the whole family'.

One service users relative says about the carers that their 'Kindness and patience is appreciated during their weekly visits, under very difficult circumstances and it is a much needed lifeline'. Another says the visits give them a 'sense of connection'. One person says they 'have someone to 'talk to and laugh with'. One person receiving a service says 'I like to get about as much as possible, your visits make this possible'.

One relative says 'The Alzheimer's sitters that are visiting my aunt are warm and very kind people whom they are very grateful for. My aunt enjoys their company and patience'. Another says the 'Support workers are very professional and caring, Mums support worker is wonderful and provides support for the whole family'.

The views of people using the service and those of their relatives in the 2012 Quality Assurance Report shows they continue to be very happy with the services provided.
