During a routine inspection

The Alzheimer's Society is a national support and research charity. The manager also managed the Salisbury branch and an application had been made to us to merge the locations. The domiciliary care service shared offices with the Dementia Support, and Social Events and Activities services.

We met with one person who received a service. They told us how they had been receiving support for two and a half years and valued the consistency of having the same support worker. They knew the process and said they would not hesitate to complain if the need arose. They said they were 'really happy' with the service they received. Similar comments were made by four relatives we spoke with. One relative told us they received an 'excellent support service' and 'found it useful to be able to communicate with the service' about their relatives condition. They said they felt 'reassured that X is in safe hands'.

We met with four staff. They all told us they felt supported and benefited from the training opportunities they had.

People were given information about services and were involved in decisions and gave consent to their care. There were arrangements in place to ensure they were kept safe and if they needed assistance with medicines there were systems in place to protect them.

Staff were recruited appropriately, supported and given training opportunities. The agency responded to complaints and was clear about its purpose, ensuring that it maintained a quality service.

People expressed their appreciation of the service given by the society. One relative told us the service had been 'so good' for their relative and another person said the society 'would definitely accommodate us it we wanted to do something different'. A relative told us their support worker was 'very, very good, X wouldn't take anyone else'. One person said their relative felt 'safe, very safe' with their support worker and another, they would not allow their relative to be taken out by their support worker if they didn't know the person was 'safe with them'.

Staff told us they felt fully supported by the society. One support worker telling us 'I've had a good induction' about their initial training when they started their role. One support worker described the training provided as 'fantastic' and another told us 'I've been impressed by the support they have given me'.
