The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics.

Care plans were personalised and centred around each individual, promoting dignity, respect and independence. They contained detailed information about people’s communication needs, preferences, interests, cultural and religious backgrounds, significant relationships, and daily routines. This information had been developed through discussions with people and, where appropriate, those important to them, during assessments and regular reviews to ensure care remained relevant to their needs and wishes.

Staff demonstrated a good understanding of people’s life histories, preferences, values and cultural backgrounds, and provided support in a way that respected and reflected these. People were encouraged to maintain important relationships and social connections, with staff recognising the positive impact these had on their wellbeing and independence. One person told us, “I have an iPad which I keep in touch with the family with, I am never bored.”
