During a routine inspection

There were three people who lived there on the day of our inspection. We spoke with two people who lived there and two members of staff who worked there. We left contact details for other staff to contact us if they wanted to so as to ask their views about the home. At the time of writing this report no members of staff had contacted us.

We saw good interactions between people who lived there and staff. We observed that people were at ease in the company of staff. One person told us, 'All the staff here are good and they help me.'

Staff had the information they needed to know how to support people to meet their individual needs. We saw that people's needs had been assessed by a range of health professionals and people's healthcare needs had been monitored and met.

People who lived there were supported by staff to take their medicines as prescribed by their doctor. This helped to ensure that their health needs were met.

We saw that the home was clean, comfortable and well maintained so it was safe for people to live in.

Staff had the skills and knowledge to know how to safely support people who lived there to meet their needs. Staff told us that they were well supported in their role and this helped them to know how to support people who lived there.

People were asked for their views about the home and these were listened to. One person told us, 'We can do what we want to do, staff took me on holiday to where I wanted to go.' We saw that audits were completed and action was taken to make improvements where needed.

7 February 2013

During a routine inspection

There were three people living there on the day of our inspection. We met all the people living there and spoke with the manager and two staff to find out their views about the service provided. We spent time observing how staff supported the people living there. This was because due to their learning disability, people were not always able to tell us their views about the home and the staff that supported them.

People made choices about what they did and what they ate and were supported to develop their independence skills. People told us they had chosen what things they had in their bedroom and how it was decorated.

Staff supported people to meet their health needs to ensure their well being. We observed that staff interacted well with people.

Staff knew how to safeguard the people living there from harm. We observed that people were comfortable in the company of staff.

There were enough staff to be able to support people to do the things they wanted to do.

Staff received the training they needed to be able to safely support the people living there.

Risks to people's health, safety and welfare were identified and assessed, so they were minimised and ensured people's safety and well being.

Improvements were made as a result of listening to the views of people, their relatives and staff.

During a routine inspection

We saw that the staff communicated well with people who lived in the home and people told us that they were happy. We saw staff offering people choices and respecting these. For example, we saw staff asking people what they wanted to eat and of they if they wanted to go out. People told us that they had chosen the colours in their bedrooms and had been shopping with staff to buy items which they wanted in their rooms.

Relatives of people in the home told us that people were well cared for and supported. One told us' the home is excellent'all the staff are lovely'. Relatives told us that they felt able to contact staff when necessary and they were kept up to date with what was happening. They felt that their relatives were safe in the home.

People who lived in the home told us that they liked living in this home. They showed us pictures of celebrations and holidays. They told us that staff asked them what they wanted to do, who they wanted to see and what they preferred to eat. People showed us their bedrooms. They were decorated with items relating to their culture and interests.

We saw that people who lived in this home looked relaxed and comfortable with staff and staff were communicating according to each person's preference and abilities.
