Cocoon Inpatient Detox

Cocoon Inpatient Detox (formerly known as Oxygen Detox) is provided and run by Cocoon (formerly known as Druglink). The service provides a residential 8 bed drug and alcohol treatment service in Hertfordshire for both men and women offering a short-term medically assisted detoxification to enable people to either become abstinent, or to regain control of their problematic substance misuse.

This service was registered by CQC on 21 December 2022 and is registered to provide the following regulated activities:

• Accommodation for persons who require treatment for substance misuse
• Treatment of disease, disorder or injury.

We carried out this inspection as it was a newly registered service that had not yet been inspected.

We carried out an inspection of the service on 25 June 2026. At this inspection we rated the service as good overall with safe rated as requires improvement.

We identified breaches of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (regulated activities): Regulation 12 (safe care and treatment) .

• Staff did not always involve people in care planning and risk assessment.
• The service did not ensure the premises used by the service provider was safe to use for its intended purpose and in a safe way.

We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to these concerns.

Feedback from people using the service, staff and external stakeholders was very positive. People told us they felt safe, and that staff were caring and treated them with kindness and respect. Staff were happy and felt well supported in their roles. Staff assessed people thoroughly before admission and used appropriate physical health checks, screening tools and outcome measures to assess withdrawal effects of people using the service and to monitor physical health during detoxification.

We carried out an inspection of the service on 25 June 2026. There were 7 people receiving care and treatment at the time of inspection, with a further person being admitted that day.

At this inspection we rated the service as good.

Mental Health Act

The service did not admit people detained under the Mental Health Act.

Mental Capacity Act

Staff received and kept up to date with training in the Mental Capacity Act.

Staff completed a consent to treatment form for each person on admission. We looked at 4 care records, all showed evidence of consent to treatment and sharing of information with relevant people.

For people who might have impaired mental capacity, staff assessed and recorded capacity to consent appropriately. They did this on a decision-specific basis with regard to significant decisions.
