The Old Parsonage is a residential care home providing accommodation with personal and nursing care for up to 22 people. At the time of this assessment there were 19 people using the service. Accommodation is provided in one adapted building over 2 floors accessed by stairs and a lift. The service had a registered manager in post. We carried out a site visit at the service on the 22 February 2024. This assessment reviewed 6 quality statements in the key questions safe, caring and responsive. We found staff had been provided with safeguarding training and knew how to access guidance on safeguarding and whistleblowing. Safeguarding incidents reported had been shared with the local authority safeguarding team. People had personalised risk management plans which were regularly reviewed by the nursing team. The registered manager told us how they involved people in their care and support and how they tried different ways to communicate with people. People could have visits from family and friends at any time and we observed relatives visiting whilst we were on site. We found there were enough staff to meet people’s needs and staff had been recruited safely. New staff received an induction and ongoing training on different topics. Staff had regular supervision and were able to attend staff meetings. Risks to people’s safety were monitored by the registered manager. They completed monthly audits and analysed records such as falls and weight loss. Staff told us they enjoyed working at this service and they felt well supported by the registered manager. Feedback from people and relatives demonstrated they thought staff were kind and caring.
