All Inspections

8 November 2013

During a routine inspection

During our inspection we communicated with one person who used the service, three members of staff including the registered manager, senior support worker and a support worker. We also spoke with a relative of a person who used the service. We looked at surveys to help us understand the views of the people who used the service.

We communicated with a person who lived at the home and they expressed they were happy at the home and they were involved in a variety of activities.

Staff we spoke with enjoyed working at the home and one person told us 'we are a creative team for our residents and provide high quality care'. If staff needed support they felt their manager was always there to help them. Another person told us 'this is a really good job and I am proud to work for the organisation'.

We looked at care plans and staff records and observed levels of staff. We saw the service had enough experienced and skilled staff to meet the people's needs.

26 March 2013

During a routine inspection

There were four people living in the home at the time of the visit. Two people were out at day care activities. Two people that we spent time with indicated that they were happy living in the home.

People had their needs and wishes assessed and recorded in order to ensure that the home could meet their individual needs.

Each person living in the home had a detailed plan of care in place that included people's individual needs and wishes and also recorded people's physical and emotional healthcare needs.

The home's staff worked with a variety of healthcare professionals including local doctors, dieticians and the learning disability team. We were shown that advocates and specialist consultants were used where appropriate.

There were processes in place that ensured that people's medication was managed safely and in accordance with their individual needs.

We spoke with staff and reviewed records which showed us that people were protected from abuse and their care was planned and delivered in a safe manner.

The staff team were properly trained, supervised and appraised and were well supported by the manager.

Comments we received from family members included. 'X is really happy at Sutton Leaze, people there know his needs very well, he likes the environment, especially the garden and we feel that all his needs are catered for.'
