During an assessment under our new approach
The Vauxhall Surgery is a GP practice and delivers service to 9467 patients under a contract held with NHS England. Information published by Office for Health Improvement and Disparities shows that deprivation within the practice population group is in the 4th decile (4 of 10). The lower the decile, the more deprived the practice population is relative to others. This assessment considered the demographics of the people using the service, the context the service was working within and how this impacted service delivery. Where relevant, further commentary is provided in the quality statements section of this report.
The service had a supportive culture, and leaders ensured staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain high-quality care. Staff felt able to raise concerns, however the service did not have a suitable Freedom to Speak up Guardian in place. The facilities and equipment met the needs of people and were clean and well-maintained. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. However, there was no formal supervision in place for Physician Associates.
The service provided information people could understand. People received fair and equal treatment and staff were trained to understand people’s needs. The practice had a clear vision and strategy to deliver high quality care and promoted good outcomes for people.
We found breaches of regulation in relation to medicines optimisation and effective staffing. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
