Updated 14 January 2021

Barton Cottage is a short-stay care home which provides accommodation, rehabilitation, personal and nursing care for up to 12 people. At the time of our inspection six people were staying at the home.

We found the following examples of good practice.

A visiting protocol included a booking system and pre-screening health questionnaire. Visitors were asked to wear face masks and their temperatures were taken on arrival. Garden visits operated during the warmer months and window visits were available. A designated indoor visitor's room had been identified for the future when Barton Cottage re-opened for visiting.

Changes were made to communal areas and staff rooms to promote social distancing. Staff had their temperatures taken before each shift and handovers took place in a large office space.

Staff were trained in infection control and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and their competency checked by management. Hand hygiene spot checks were carried out and prominent signage provided important key messages and reminders to staff and visitors.
