During a routine inspection

The people we spoke with during our inspection told us they had been consulted about all aspects of their support. One person commented, 'I feel as though I get emotional understanding, professionalism and empathy from my support workers. The service is provided in a flexible way to accommodate my needs.'

Two people using the service and a relative told us they received the right kind of support to develop their confidence, independence and social integration. One of the people said, "I have become more independent and confident with the support I have had. I am also more confident in talking to my support worker's, one to one about money, for example."

The medication administration system in place made sure that people who used the service received safe support to take their medicines as prescribed by their doctors.

Robust checks had been made before employing new staff. This ensured that people who used the service were supported by suitably qualified, skilled and experienced staff.

This service had a system in place to continually improve the support provided by listening to and responding to the views of people using the service and their representatives. Two people we spoke with described the service as "Great" and "Excellent".

During a routine inspection

We spoke to one (of the nineteen people using the service) and two family members of people using the service. We also looked at comments made by people using the service (and their families) in the regular surveys conducted by the provider (the most recent was March 2012).

NAS Community services (Manchester) was said to be meeting people's care and support needs properly. They (and their families) said that they were involved and consulted about how they were cared for and supported and that care staff treated them with respect and maintained their dignity.

Comments made included;

'The care I receive is very good. I have no complaints.'

'They are reliable, don't rush and assist me in the way we have agreed.'

"We chose what type of support we needed and the staff provide it."

'My support staff are really good and treat me with proper respect.'
